Lingshang Granite Quarry Pit Revitalization Plan
Type: Tourism
Area: 29,000 sqm
Stage: Competition Entry Top 3
The proposed resort and village market is located in a valley leading to a retiring quarry pit. Historically the site was depicted in Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, a famous scroll painting illustrating the life of people in the mountains through the eyes of a hermit scholar. The client, as the owner of the quarry, wants to retire the pit and restore the peace of living through the re-construction of the painting.
A dialectic relationship between a “Market in the Hills” and the setback resort is proposed to reflect the peace of a hermit and to accommodate the commercial nature of the project – it is the retreating from the urban that creates the peace of the rural. A series of cross-sectional relationships are designed to carefully structure visual and circulation relationships between the market and hotel rooms. Vehicular circulation of the site is hidden at the outer boundary, leaving every part of the property accessible by walking; and the walking routes form a sequential experience that unfolds with different activities just as the scroll painting.
