Puyuan Granary Renovation

The granary of Puyuan is preserved as part of the traditional Jiangnan water town of Puyuan. The project goal is to build a catering complex around the two old granaries. The large volume of the
reconstruction and the small volume of the existing granary require us to seek a strategy to balance the old granary with the additional volume.

The transformation and addition part abstracts the granary into a modern abstract volume, interspersed in the space in a layered manner. The staggered granary volume contrasts with the old granary
while echoing the basic architectural form of the old granary. The building materials are inspired by the original granary and the Jiangnan architectural texture of Puyuan, combining traditional materials with modern building blocks, echoing the history and highlighting the modernity of the construction
culture.
